Unconventional and Explorative
For The Theatre School’s Centennial celebration we were tasked with creating an immersive piece which would span time and space, celebrating 100 years since the founding of the Goodman School of Drama. From surveying rooms to develop new ground plans, collaborating with multiple departments to develop a clock with integrated monitors, and being light on our feet to solve problems as they arose, this celebration is a testament to the power of teamwork and ingenuity.
The Lieutenant’s Dream: Pavilion Arches
The scenic design of The Lieutenant’s Dream called for a series of four half archways at the corners of the playing space. The base of the arches had to be stand-able and support the weight of the upper portion, which was a series of complex curves made of bent square steel and clad with plywood.
Movement and Space
The show involved the use of 16 individual rooms and a blackbox theater spanning 3 floors with 36 possible tracked routes, which necessitated the creation of new ground plans based on architectural drawings. The final room of the show was an exhibit and lounge which told the history and significance of the school and honored notable alumni.
